Lamecha Girma (7:23.81), Mohamed Katir (7:24.68) Both Go Under Daniel Komen's Long-Standing Record By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia, the Olympic and World Championships silver medalist in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, showed what he can do without the barriers in the way with a stunning performance Wednesday at the Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais. Girma took more than a second off of Daniel Komen's 1998 record of 7:24.90 and he was joined under the world record by second-place finisher Mohmaed Katir of Spain, the bronze medalist in last year's World Championships 1,500. Katir ran 7:24.68 for No. 2 all-time and a European record. American Grant Fisher was fifth in 7:35.82. The meet was bursting with international stars. Great Britain's Keely Hodgkinson ran a world-leading 1:57.71 to win the women's 800 meters. Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway won the men's 1,500 meters in a world-leading 3:32.38. Femke Bol of The Netherlands won the women's 400 meters in a meet-record 50.20 seconds. World champion Grant Holloway defeated U.S. rival Daniel Roberts in the 60-meter hurdles, 7.39 seconds to 7.43. Olympic and world champion Katie Moon jumped a world-leading height of 15-10 (4.83m) to win the women's pole vault. Armand "Mondo" Duplantis of Sweden won the men's event with 19-8.50 (6.01m). Ferdinand Omanyala from Kenya beat Olympic 100-meter champion Lamont Marcell Jacobs of Italy in the 60 meters, 6.54 to 6.57. Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay ran a world-leading 3:57.47 to win the women's 1,500 meters. Karsten Warholm from Norway won the 400 meters in a meet-record 45.51 seconds. Diribe Welteji Ethiopia ran 8:34.84 to win the women's 3,000. World champion Miltiadis Tentoglou from Greece produced a world-leading mark of 27-7 (8.41m) in the long jump. Cuba's Liadagmis Povea jumped a world-leading mark of 48-7 (14.81m) in the women's triple jump. |
